Teaching music is not about transferring information. It is about creating the conditions for someone to discover what they already know how to feel.
Philosophy
Listening first
Before students play, they listen. Developing an ear is the foundation of everything else — technique, theory, expression.
Creativity over correctness
Music education too often rewards getting the right answer. I try to reward curiosity, risk-taking, and the willingness to sound bad on the way to sounding good.
Context matters
Every piece of music comes from somewhere. Understanding that context — historical, cultural, personal — makes students better musicians and more thoughtful people.
The long game
I am not interested in producing performers for recitals. I am interested in building a lifelong relationship with music.

Background
Where I have been.
I graduated from Idaho Fine Arts Academy in June 2021, majoring in Contemporary Instrumental Music. Before that, when I was 17, I began volunteering at Boise Rock School part-time, then was hired on to teach full-time in January 2023 and am still with the company today.
That combination of formal training, professional performance, and years in the classroom, shapes how I teach. I know what it takes to develop real skill, and I know how to make that process feel less like work and more like discovery.
I also regularly substitute-teach in the West Ada School District, which has taught me new and creative approaches to the teaching environment.
